VILLACORTA VIKINGS COMPETE AT LEGOLAND ROBOTICS COMPETITION:
Villacorta TOSA Lydia Narcissa shared this exciting news about Villacorta Viking students: “Our GATE students in grades 4th-6th participated in a First Lego League (FLL) Cup at Legoland along with 61 other teams in the Southern California Region. This year’s theme was Nature’s Fury. We boarded the bus at Villacorta before sun up. This fun tournament included a Robot Game and Core Value judging. Each team had a 10 min. session with Core Values Judges where they were evaluated on inspiration, teamwork and gracious professionalism through a 5 min. team building activity and 5 minute Q & A. Each team then had a practice round on the competition table before their 3 rounds of the Robot Game in which their robot had to complete a set of missions within a 2 ½ minute time limit. Students spent many weeks after school preparing for the competition building, programing and recalibrating their robot to complete the missions. For each of the 3 rounds, a group of 4 teams competed simultaneously. The event culminated with a closing ceremony at which trophies were awarded. All participants received a medal and the students enjoyed their additional time exploring Legoland.
